Geocaching On The Skoot
Apr 01, 2015
What is Geocaching? - Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.
There are millions of “caches” hidden all over the world. There are 5 hidden around Skootamatta (4 by the SDRA). The only necessities to play are a GPS device or a GPS-enabled mobile phone so that you can navigate to the cache. If you are using your mobile phone, download the geocaching app and a GPS app.
Once the cache has been found, sign the log book, take a trinket (optional), and return the container to its original location for the next person to find.
The SDRA has placed fun “caches” around the lake and has registered these caches on www.geocaching.com.
If you are new to geocaching, you can find out more at www.geocaching.com and sign up for a user account!
It is a fun activity for people of all ages. We encourage our members to try it this summer!
Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and bug repellant!
