Nuisance Bear

Jul 15, 2015

A bear has been seen on a number of occasion at the north end of the Narrows. Here is a message from John Redden with some details:

At least four cottagers, myself included are experiencing a nuisance bear issue at the north end of the narrows. This critter is estimated at over 300 lbs. and appears to be settling in around this area as we are getting repeated visits. It is chiefly looking for red ants to eat and has torn up our garden, overturning large rocks.
When I contacted the Ministry of Natural Resources as well as the OPP, they told us that the bear population is out of control, there is a food shortage and the animals are particularly dangerous right now. Finally, they said there was nothing they could do about it and that we should shoot it ourselves if it poses a threat. Great....
There must be some other solution. I suppose they may do something if one of my grandkids gets eaten. Anybody else having this problem?
